David Behrendsen
Coach
BJJ Black Belt · Training Jiu Jitsu for about 14 years
David has been training jiu jitsu for about 14 years. Off the mats, he teaches high school math and runs Behr&Sons Lawn Care and Landscaping with his wife, Emily. For David, jiu jitsu is a family affair. He loves the family-friendly environment, the friendships and community support, and getting to watch his child and his wife grow on the mats. "Some dogs gotta hunt," he says, "but jiu jitsu is really for everyone. It's a simulated fight where you can apply real effort and technique, with little chance of injury as long as your ego is in check. It's a win-win!" When he isn't teaching or training, you'll find him wrestling or landscaping.

Emily Behrendsen
Coach
BJJ Brown Belt · Training Jiu Jitsu for 6 years
Emily has been training jiu jitsu for 6 years and coaches women, men, and kids at Iron Wolf. She's also a stay-at-home and homeschooling mom, a long-term care nurse, and the admin behind Behr&Sons Lawn Care and Landscaping. Her husband, David, and their son train too. "Jiu jitsu is more than a sport to me. It's where I've found strength, purpose, community, and countless chances to grow," she says. She loves that it challenges her body and mind, teaches real self-defense, builds confidence, and gives her a place to "get my crazy out." Proverbs 27:17, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another," sums up what she loves most: pushing and encouraging one another and growing stronger together. "I believe God gave me jiu jitsu for a reason," Emily says, "and I'm grateful something I love has become part of my purpose." Off the mats, she enjoys gardening and working out.

Greg Justice
Coach
BJJ Brown Belt · Training Jiu Jitsu for nearly 7 years
Greg has been a high school teacher and coach since 2015, with a lifelong passion for sports, competition, and helping others grow through challenge and discipline. At 41, he realized he was getting out of shape, mentally and physically, and went looking for a way back on track. That search led him to Iron Wolf, where he found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. What started as a way to get fit quickly became a passion for the art, the sport, and the lifestyle, and he's now been training for nearly seven years. For Greg, jiu jitsu is about much more than technique or winning matches. He embraces the whole journey: the challenges, the setbacks, the growth, and the coaches and training partners who have become like family. "Iron sharpens iron" has become a big part of his life, a reminder that we get stronger by surrounding ourselves with people who challenge us, encourage us, and push us to be better.

Dan Hussey
Coach
BJJ Blue Belt · Training Jiu Jitsu for 4+ years
Dan has been training jiu jitsu for more than 4 years and counting. Off the mats, he's a Director of Data Management and Governance. He loves picking up new skills, and jiu jitsu is something he can do for the long haul to keep his body moving and his mind sharp. "In a world packed with distraction, it's one of the very few things that demands you be present in the moment and focused," Dan says. "There's something very cathartic about that." Best of all, his daughter trains too, and he loves that she gets to grow in a safe, supportive place where she sees other strong women pushing themselves toward their goals. When he isn't on the mats, you'll find him weight training.

Tami Thurman
Coach
5th Dan Tang Soo Do Black Belt · Training martial arts for 22 years
Tami has been training martial arts for 22 years. She earned her 1st Dan black belt in Tang Soo Do in 2007, her 2nd in 2009, and her 3rd in 2013, then cross-ranked as a 3rd Dan at Iron Wolf in 2016, the same year she earned her 1st Dan in Hapkido. She was promoted to 4th Dan at Iron Wolf in 2020 and 5th Dan in 2025, and she's now working toward her blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Off the mats, she works as a physical therapy tech. "Martial arts are such a great addition to the whole person, from who you were to who you are and who you aspire to be," Tami says. "It shows your true character in the challenges it presents." She loves how training pushes you to be the best version of yourself alongside like-minded people who quickly become family, and she's grateful to be part of a faith-based community at Iron Wolf. When she isn't training, you'll find her cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.

When he isn't training, you'll find him hiking, running, or reading history and theology.

Jonathan Evans
Coach

Jonathan has been training martial arts for 15 years. He holds a 4th Dan black belt in Tang Soo Do, has trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 12 years and is a purple belt, and has added two years of no-gi kickboxing. "Martial arts are a brilliant way to express and cultivate creativity," Jonathan says, "as well as grow in discipline and teamwork, in a world where we so often reject both of those qualities." He loves that training keeps him active and fit while teaching him to defend and protect the people around him. When he isn't training, you'll usually find him playing board games, biking, watching movies, or exploring nature with friends and family.
